Mr. Barcott joined Holmes Weddle & Barcott in 2015, and practices in the firm’s Seattle office assisting clients in admiralty and maritime issues, insurance coverage, and insurance defense.

The Barcott family has a multi-generational legacy in the fishing industry in Washington and Alaska. Mr. Barcott has been exposed to the industry for his entire lifetime. While in college, he spent his summers working as the engineer aboard a high speed catamaran serving the tourist industry in Ketchikan, Alaska. This work qualified him to sit for a USCG 100 ton captain’s license.

While in law school, Mr. Barcott served as the Senior Comments Editor of the Washington International Law Journal.  Mr. Barcott also participated in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Pro Bono Program, assisting pro se litigants in matters before the Ninth Circuit. 

During his time with the firm, Mr. Barcott has been actively involved in its litigation and maritime disaster practices. He has served as counsel in numerous jury trials and arbitrations in Washington, Alaska, and Oregon. Mr. Barcott has also served as counsel in appellate matters before the United State Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Washington Supreme Court, and the Washington Court of Appeals.

Mr. Barcott has represented clients before a United States Coast Guard Marine Board of Inquiry on three occasion involving Coast Guard investigations into mass casualty events, and has presented on the subject of Coast Guard Marine Board investigations at maritime law programs sponsored by the Washington State Bar Association. Through those experiences, and the processes leading up to them, Mr. Barcott has developed the skills necessary to successfully guide clients through the investigations, litigation, and appeals which follow such events.
